Meryl Streep Praises 'Barbie', Says The Greta Gerwig-Directorial 'Saved The Movies Last Summer'

At the Palm Springs Film Awards, Meryl Streep was revealed to be a 'Barbie' fan and praised Billie Eilish and Finneas for their song writing skills for its soundtrack.

She was all-praise for Greta Gerwig’s 'Barbie' and?took to the stage to share her insights on?the satirical comedy, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling,?which became the highest-grossing film of 2023, earning over?$1.4 billion.?

'Barbie' bagged an award for its song 'What Was I Made For?' The song was sung and written by Billie Eilish?and Finneas, who became the first songwriters to win the Chairman’s Award. Post their win, Meryl said,?“I just want to say to Billie and Finneas that you have delivered the 'Barbie' love bomb. You’ve saved the movies last summer and all of our jobs. You’ve delivered joy to countless generations and genders of people. You should surf that wave, kids, until you’re old and deserve to be jaded like me.”

At last year's Oscars,?Steven?Spielberg ran into Tom Cruise and?thanked him for?giving life to?movie theaters.?“You saved Hollywood’s a**?and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” Spielberg told Cruise, adding “Seriously, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”
