Robert Downey Jr has been nominated for his role as Lewis Strauss at the 96th Academy Awards. This is the third time the actor has been nominated for the Oscars. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he was pleased with not winning the prestigious award when he was nominated for the first time.

Back in 1993, the actor was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in ‘Chaplin.’ However, the award was swooped up by Al Pacino for ‘Scent of a Woman.’ In an interview with the co-hosts of ‘The View’, Robert Downey Jr recalled his first Oscar nomination. He said, “I was young and crazy.” He added that if he had won the award, it “would have put me under the impression that I was on the right track.” He was 28 back then.

In an earlier interview with British GQ, the actor predicted that he would win the Oscar one day. He said, “As long as I stick around, I’m going to end up with a bunch of them anyway as they’re going to run out of people to give them to. And I’m probably going to win it one year when someone else deserves to win it. Why? Because it’s my time. And that’s the way shit works around here. I’m just an uptight mutt at the top of his game.”

After ‘Chaplin’, the actor was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in 2009 for his role in ‘Tropic Thunder’. He did not win the award.

Reacting to the nominations that ‘Oppenheimer’ has received, the actor expressed his utmost joy. He said, “I was just so happy for all 13 nominations. I couldn’t believe that it was Emily Blunt’s first Oscar nomination.”

Robert Downey Jr plays the role of Lewis Strauss in ‘Oppenheimer’ who was the Chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
