Her tragic demise marks the second student death in 2024, following the 26 student deaths last year, all attributed to the overwhelming stress of exams.

An 18-year-old in Kota, Rajasthan, succumbed to the pressures of studies and died by suicide and called herself a "loser" in her suicide note. Her tragic demise marks the second student death in 2024, following the 26 student deaths last year, all attributed to the overwhelming stress of exams.

The deceased was identified as Nirika Singh who was preparing for Joint Entrance Examination. Singh lived in the Borekheda area of Kota and was found hanging in her residence.

According to PTI, Singh's grandmother knocked at the door of her room around 10 am. When there was no response, she raised an alarm. The family found her hanging from the ventilation window above the door. Singh was promptly taken to the hospital by her family but was declared dead upon arrival.

The authorities have begun the post-mortem procedure and further investigation regarding the death.

A suicide note was recovered with the body where she reportedly wrote down the reason behind taking such a step.

The note reportedly read, "Mummy, papa I can't do JEE. So I suicide.I am loser. I am worst daughter. Sorry mummy papa. Yahi last option he."

Circle officer DSP Dharmveer Singh told PTI that the victim was supposed to take her JEE test on January 30 or 31.

The Singh family hails from Akawdakhurd village in Jhalawar district and has been staying in the city for the last three years.

On January 23, 19-year-old Mohammed Zaid was found hanging in his hostel room in Kota. He had come to the city from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district a year back to prepare for the medical entrance exam NEET. No suicide note was found in that case.
