Careers360’s Awards 81 Research Scholars At Grand Ceremony In Delhi

The awards also saw the release of a White Paper, Research in Indian Academic Institutions and Top 1,000 Researchers of India.

The 81 research scholars were awarded during Careers360’s award ceremony in New Delhi.

The second edition of Careers360’s Faculty Research Awards was held on Friday at the Auditorium of the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library, Teen Murti House.?

“81 of India’s top research scholars based in academic institutions were identified on the basis of their publication and citation counts as well as the h-index. 30 researchers from public institutions and 27 from private institutions were awarded ‘Outstanding Faculty Awards’. Another 24 scholars were conferred with ‘Commendable Faculty Awards’,” the statement from the group said.

The awards also saw the release of a White Paper, Research in Indian Academic Institutions and Top 1,000 Researchers of India, containing the names and institutions of the top thousand researchers.

The statement stated that the awardees have advanced their respective disciplines, led — or still lead — institutions, represent India in international bodies and research collaborations and are recognised globally for contributions to the generation of knowledge. ?

The awards were given away by the Union Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, who was Chief Guest at the event.?

Prof (Dr) TG Sitharam, Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was the Guest of Honour, it mentioned.?

“The 81 research scholars were identified from across 27 separate domains. Another 1,000 researchers from the same 27 domains and working in over 400 academic institutions were identified and their names have been published in a white paper released by Prof. TG Sitharam at the awards,” it mentioned.

“In the entire world, the basis of human development knowledge. Our h-index was 0.5. Today it’s 0.85. This is your achievement. Some researchers here have over 25,000 citations. That is when you know how much work is being done in this country. The Prime Minister has drawn people to research and has also paid attention to the synergy. A National Research Foundation is being set up that over the next five years will invest Rs 50,000 crore in research. This is happening due to the PM’s foresight,” Devusinh Chauhan, Union Minister of State for Communications said.
Chauhan added: “Our department has also worked in this direction. Telecom is the basis for the revolution in our digital infrastructure. Then, other countries have invested a lot in their moon missions but we did it at a very low amount. The credit for this success goes to scientists and researchers. I am confident that Aditya, too, will be similarly successful.” ?

Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, said: “I am very happy to be here as a researcher, to witness many distinguished researchers receiving the awards from Careers360.”?

“Research and innovation is the backbone of a global, knowledge-driven economy. India is a promising destination for research and innovation. In 2014, we used to import most of the iPhones. Now we manufacture and export. Today, we are in the top five countries in the world for publications and patents, in incubations and start-ups. We have the third largest startup ecosystem in the world focusing on global markets,” he added.?

On the occasion Chairman and Founder Careers360 Mahesh Peri said: “While there are many recognitions and awards for celebrating institutional excellence, very little is said about the faculty members who make an institution. This is an earnest effort from Careers360 to recognise and celebrate the best faculty researchers working in India’s academic institutions. With this effort, we hope to acknowledge, celebrate, inspire and encourage researchers while pushing the institutions to invest, incentivise and institutionalise research efforts to solve India's unique and myriad problems.”?
