The Prime Minister actively participated in the dedication and inauguration of 20 projects related to air and seaports, railway, highway, petroleum and natural gas, atomic energy, and higher education in the state?in the presence of the chief minister and Governor R N Ravi and Chief Minister MK Stalin.
As part of the infrastructure development, Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport. With an investment exceeding Rs 1,100 crore, the two-level international terminal boasts the capacity to serve over 44 lakh passengers annually, accommodating around 3500 passengers during peak hours. The facility incorporates state-of-the-art amenities for passenger convenience.
The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port in Chennai.
Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stones for petroleum and natural gas projects valued at over Rs 9,000 crore. The government emphasized that these initiatives in the petroleum and natural gas sectors are crucial steps toward meeting the industrial, domestic, and commercial energy requirements of the region.
Addressing the audience, the Prime Minister expressed his concern for the people of Tamil Nadu affected by the December 2023 rains and floods, acknowledging the losses incurred.
He assured, "The central government stands with the people of Tamil Nadu in this time of crisis. We are providing every possible support to the state government."
PM Modi also praised the late Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Vijayakanth, referring to him as a 'captain' in both cinema and politics. Remembering his political contributions, Modi highlighted Vijayakanth's commitment to placing national interest above all. He paid tribute, stating, "I pay my tributes to him, I also express my condolences to his family and admirers."
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the recent passing of eminent farm scientist M S Swaminathan from Tamil Nadu, crediting him for ensuring food security for the country.
