India are going to host Afghanistan for the first time for a three-match T20 bilateral series starting on 11th January 2024. The series against Afghanistan is going to be very important for India as they will not be playing any bilateral T20 series before the T20 World Cup. (More Cricket News)

Afghanistan recently won a three-match T20 series 2-1 against the United Arab Emirates. Young right-hand batter Ibrahim Zadran led the side in that series. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored his maiden T20 century in the first match against UAE whereas Naveen-Ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi were the positives in the bowling department.

India's full-time T20I captain Hardik Pandya and the stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav who led the team against Australia and South Africa recently, are recovering from their respective ankle injuries.

Recently, ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli expressed that they want to play this year's T20I World Cup scheduled in the West Indies and United States Of America. Indian team's selection panel chairman Ajit Agarkar will announce the squad for 3 T20Is against Afghanistan soon.?

The Indian team will not be playing any T20I match apart from these three T20Is before the World Cup and the selectors will be eyeing for that angle too.

Earlier, the Afghanistan Cricket Board banned their three players, namely Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-Ul-Haq and Mujeeb Ur Rahman from playing in franchise cricket as players were requesting ACB to exclude their names from the central contract list. However, Farooqi and Naveen-Ul-Haq played in Afghanistan's series against UAE.

India are scheduled to play a five-match home Test series against England after the T20I series against Afghanistan. After that, the IPL carnival will start which will start T20 World Cup upon its ending.
