Ramanand Sagar’s 'Ramayana'
Ramanand Sagar’s 'Ramayana' is one of the best shows till date based on the Hindu epic. It was first aired on Doordarshan from 1987 to 1988. It starred Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia, Sunil Lahri, Arvind Trivedi, and Dara Singh.
'Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama'
'Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama' was also inspired by the Hindu epic. It was a 1993 anime film which was jointly made by the Indian and Japanese animation industries and featured voice-over actors from both countries. It is one of the best-animated adaptations of 'Ramayana'. The voice-over artistes were Rael Padamsee, Uday Mathan, Mishal Varma, and Noel Godin.
'Lav Kush'
This 1997 Hindi film was also based on Valmiki's Uttar 'Ramayan'. It starred Jeetendra as Rama, Jaya Prada as Sita, Arun Govil as Lakshmana, Dara Singh as Hanuman and Pran as Valmiki.
'Raavan'
Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan' released in 2010. It starred Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Govinda among others. The film was a modern-day story of the 'Ramayana'. Though it was not a box-office success, it was loved by the audience.
'Ram Setu'
Akshay Kumar starrer 'Ram Setu' is partially based on true events and is based on fiction. It was loosely based on Pushkar Bhatnagar's pseudo-scientific study 'Dating the Era of Lord Rama'.
'Adipurush'
The mythological action film was also based on 'Ramayana'. Directed and co-written by Om Raut, the film starred Prabhas as Rama, Kriti Sanon as Goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Lakshmana and Saif Ali Khan as Raavana. The movie was a damp squib at the box office.
'Siya Ke Ram'
The show starred Madirakshi Mundle and Ashish Sharma as Sita and Lord Rama, and Karthik Jayaram played Raavan. It presented the 'Ramayana' from Sita's perspective.
