Italy's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, sparked controversy as she asserted that there is a "compatibility problem" between Islamic culture and the values and rights of European civilization.

Meloni addressed?a gathering organized by her right-wing, ultra-conservative Brothers of Italy party, attended by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and billionaire Elon Musk.

"I believe there is a problem of compatibility between Islamic culture or a certain interpretation of Islamic culture and the rights and values of our civilization," she stated, highlighting her concerns.

Meloni also pointed out that a considerable number of Islamic cultural centers in Italy are financed by Saudi Arabia, a fact that does not escape her attention.

Furthermore, the Italian Prime Minister criticized Saudi Arabia's strict Sharia law, where acts such as apostasy and homosexuality are considered criminal offenses.

"Sharia means lapidation for adultery and the death penalty for apostasy and homosexuality. I believe that these should be raised, which does not mean generalising on Islam. It means raising the problem that there is a process of Islamisation in Europe that is very distant from the values of our civilisation," reportedly said Meloni.?

Sharia law, rooted in the Quran and the Hadith, represents a set of principles and regulations constituting the foundational religious texts of Islam.
