The winning numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on Tuesday night were 8, 24, 30, 45, 61, and Mega Ball, which was 12. According to a news release from the lottery early on Wednesday, the estimated jackpot for the following drawing on Friday night would be the fourth-largest prize in Mega Millions history because no one won the lottery on Tuesday.
According to Mega Millions, Friday's drawing will be the 31st since the jackpot was last won on April 18 in New York. While no one won the jackpot on Tuesday, the drawing was fortunate for some. According to the lottery, one ticket sold in Texas won $4 million by matching the first five numbers and activating the multiplier, which is available in most states for an additional $1 purchase.
According to a news release from Mega Millions, "overall, the total number of winning tickets at all prize levels continues to rise along with the jackpot, and the August 1 drawing produced a total of 4,904,910 winning tickets across all prize tiers."
The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won was $1.537 billion in South Carolina in 2018. Following that, a $1.348 billion ticket was sold in Maine in January, and a $1.337 billion prize was awarded in July of the previous year. A Michigan-sold ticket won the fourth-largest Mega Millions prize in 2021, which was worth $1.05 billion. Last month, a Powerball ticket purchased at a Los Angeles convenience store matched all numbers to win a $1.08 billion jackpot, the third-largest in Powerball history.
Since April 18, no one has won the Mega Millions jackpot, allowing it to grow larger and richer. The $1.25 billion prize is now one of the highest ever awarded in the United States. The $1.1 billion drawing on Tuesday night was the 30th in a row without a winner.
