The Andhra Pradesh forest department has cremated a dead leopard whose carcass was found while patrolling the Nagarjunsagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve. Officials said there were no indications that the animal had been poached.

Following the directions of the deputy director of Project Tiger in Atmakuru and adhering to the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), forest officials conducted a port mortem examination of the carcass on Wednesday morning and then burnt it, a forest department statement issued on Wednesday night said.
There were no injuries or bullet marks on the carcass, and neither were any body parts missing. Therefore poaching is not suspected.?The carcass was discovered around 6 pm on Tuesday. The forest department has dispatched some samples of the leopard's viscera to NTCA and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology for analysis.
