A power station in Manipur's Imphal West district experienced a fuel leak on Wednesday night, with the spilled heavy fuel reaching streams alongside it. The affected streams, including those passing through villages like Kanto Sabal and Sekmai, eventually converge with the Imphal River downstream, a crucial water source for the region.

The Chief Minister's Office promptly instructed relevant departments to take immediate action to prevent an environmental disaster, utilizing available resources such as machinery, manpower, and expertise. To mitigate the impact, heavy machinery was deployed to redirect the water flow in the affected streams towards fields.

Officials are currently investigating whether the fuel leakage was accidental or if there was any intentional involvement. Local residents, who rely on the stream water for their daily activities, expressed concern about the threat posed not only to aquatic life but also to the communities dependent on these water sources.

Nongmai, a resident of Kanto Sabal, emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, "This spill poses a significant threat to both aquatic life and the communities relying on these water resources."
