Congress in Gujarat on Wednesday demanded an immediate survey of the damage caused by unseasonal rains to crops and payment of compensation to farmers.?

State Congress chief Amit Chavda said in a letter to ?Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel that contrary to the assurance given by the government, no relief has been provided to farmers so far.

Several parts of Saurashtra-Kutch regions and districts in North Gujarat have had unseasonal rainfall in the last few days.?

"The state has experienced unseasonal rains more than once this year....crops like wheat, jeera, millet, etc, as well as the mango crop have been severely damaged. Also, fodder is not available, causing concern among cattle farmers," said Chavda.

Farmers have suffered severe losses due to the floods which occurred more than once in winter and summer seasons and heavy unseasonal rains, he said.

"....you informed me that survey work is undergoing. You had given the order for immediate surveys in affected areas, and said compensation will be paid to the farmers after the completion of survey work...but so far, those affected have not been offered any kind of compensation," the Congress leader claimed.

A few days ago, agriculture minister Raghavji Patel had said the survey work was in the last stage, and the chief minister would soon announce financial assistance for farmers.
