J&K Encounter : Security Forces Kill 1 Militant In Baramulla; Second Encounter Since Last 48 Hours

Today's was the second encounter in Baramulla district in the last 48 hours. On Thursday, two militants were killed in Kreeri village in the same district.

After Thursday's encounter that killed two militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, another terrorist was killed after an encounter broke out between security forces in Kunzer area on Saturday, J&K Police said.

Following specific input about the presence of two militants in Karhama Kunzer village, security forces in North Kashmir swung into action.

Security forces have cordoned off the village and a search operation is underway.

SSP Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpure said that a terrorist of LeT has been killed in the encounter.

“Information was received about some suspicious movement. A cordon and search operation was launched and during that firing was done towards us and in retaliatory firing one terrorist of LeT has been killed. Our forces are alert in view of G20 Summit and we are neutralising the threat and G20 Summit will be organised successfully,” said the SSP.

Recent encounters in Baramulla

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Thursday carried out searches at four places in Baramulla district looking for evidence of militant activities, officials said.

NIA searched four places in Old Town of Baramulla district, in north Kashmir, in a case related to militancy in the Union Territory, the officials said.

The NIA sleuths were accompanied by police and CRPF, they said.

The searches were going on till last reports came in, they said, adding further details were awaited.

On Tuesday, the NIA swooped in at 12 locations in Jammu and Kashmir as part of its investigation in a Pakistan-backed terror conspiracy case. ?

Out of the 12 locations, 11 were in the Kashmir Valley -- eight in Pulwama district and one each in Kulgam, Anantnag, and Budgam districts -- and one was in Poonch district of Jammu region.

Police ?said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.

In the exchange of firing, two militants were killed, the official said, adding that ?their identification and group affiliation was being ascertained.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition, including an AK 47 rifle and a pistol, were recovered from the site of the encounter, he said.
