As promised by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Madhya Pradesh government has transferred the second tranche of 'Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana' for the overall development of women in the state. On Monday, the Chief Minister transferred Rs 1,000 to the accounts of more than 1.25 crore women under this scheme with a single click of the mouse at a grand ceremony in Indore.

The Chief Minister lit the ceremonial lamp and worshipped the girl child to inaugurate the ceremony. The women also presented a 101-foot long rakhi to the Chief Minister. On the occasion, the Chief Minister handed over the keys of the house to a physically challenged couple, the beneficiaries of the housing scheme. He also distributed certificates to two girls benefiting from Ladli Laxmi Yojana among others.

Addressing the female beneficiaries present, Chouhan said that as a brother, he was fortunate to be able to transfer the 'second instalment of happiness' to his sisters' accounts. "My sisters, I am sure that the 10th of every month will fill your lives with renewed hope and joy," he said. "You have all called me brother and I promise to take away all your worries and make you happy."

The Chief Minister said that sons used to be considered a pillar of support in old age, while daughters were considered a burden. "That will not be the case now," he assured. He also said that he also had a responsibility towards his sisters and nieces. "Their mama (maternal uncle) will work for the education of the girls," he said. "I started the 'Ladli Bahna Yojana' after seeing the plight of women. I know that women often suffer. But they will get some relief through the Ladli Bahna Yojana. If a brother of so many sisters cannot do even that much as Chief Minister, it's a shame for him."

The Chief Minister also swore in the women to involve them in creating awareness about the government's programmes for the welfare of women.

The Madhya Pradesh government had launched the Mukhyamantri Ladli Bahna Yojana to promote economic empowerment of women in the state. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 1,000 is deposited in the sisters' bank account every month.
