Under Article 355,?the Union government gets to make decisions on several aspects of security amid continuing unrest in a state.

A mob on Thursday night tried to attack the ancestral house of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, but security forces foiled the attempt, the police said.?“Public anger and protest are now slowly turning the tide, putting the sole onus of this prolonged disturbances solely into the failure of the government in dealing with the situation,” the BJP leaders said in the letter.?

The letter also said that acute difficulties faced by the residents in their day-to-day lives are playing a major role in dealing with the new developments.?A CBI team is currently investigating the killing of the two students - a man and a girl- in the northeastern state which has been witnessing ethnic strife for nearly five months.?

With no violence reported during the day, the government lifted the curfew in the two districts from 5 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
