Modi 3.0 Govt Highlights | June 10: Gadkari, Sitharaman, Shah, Jaishankar Retains Ministries; Chouhan Gets Agri Ministry

Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for a historic third term on Sunday. PM Modi has been in office since 2014 - when he first won the elections with BJP. FOr the 2024 government, despite the BJP not securing a majority, a coalition government with NDA allies such as TDP, JDU and more has been formed.

Including Narendra Modi, a total of 72 ministers have been sworn in to form the new NDA Government for 2024. A total of 30 cabinet ministers and 36 Ministers of State, of which five are with independent charge has been inducted into the Union Council of Ministers.

With the oath taking ceremony now complete, the 2024 Modi Cabinet is scheduled to meet on Monday. As per PTI, the new cabinet and PM will meet at the PM's residence at Lok Kalyan Marg at 5 PM.

At least 20 key players of the Modi Cabinet 2.0 have not made the cut for the new government. From Smriti Irani to Anurag Thakur, here are the ministers who didn't make it -

Along with some familiar faces, several MPs made their debut in the Central Government on Sunday. actor turned politician Chirag Paswan, BJP national president JP Nadda, former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhand and many others were inducted as cabinet ministers.

Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth, singer Kailash Kher and business tycoons Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani were among notable attendees at the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday.

Actors Akshay Kumar, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut, Diretor and Producer Rajkumar Hirani and many more were spotted at Rashtrapati Bhavan for the oath-taking ceremony.

Before Narendra Modi;s third term, the only Indian Prime Minister to remain in power for three consecutive terms was Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru served as prime minister of India for 16 years, initially as the interim prime minister, then from 1947 till his death in 1964.

Among the 72 minsiters inducted on Sunday, there are a few key figures from the Modi 2.0 Cabinet who were retained by the Prime Minister. Some of these names are -

With a return to coalition politics, the Modi 3.0 cabinet was distributed across the NDA allies, with BJP holding key figures. Amongst these allies is Telugu Desam Party's Ram Mohan Naidu.

Naidu, who was once the National General Secretary of TDP, is now one of the youngest MPs to hold a cabinet berth.

With the swearing in ceremony complete for the new Modi cabinet, the portoflios and cabinet berths will be divided amongst the key allies. Ahead of the portfolio distribution, the Bharatiya Janta Party - which has the highest number of votes in the NDA alliance - is expected to retain the big four ministries -

The newly formed NDA government is scheduled to meet on Monday. This meeting comes after the swearing in of all 72 ministers in the Modi Cabinet 3.0

As per news agency PTI, the first meeting of the Modi 3.0 cabinet is expected to begin at 5 PM at the prime minister's residence.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, India saw the return of coalition politics. With BJP securing the highest number of votes but losing out on a majority, the ruling party had to join hands with allies to form an NDA government. The NDA alliance comprises of the following political parties -

The portfolios for the Modi 3.0 cabinet are expected to be revealed today. Ahead of the highly anticipated division, the BJP is expected to retain the big four ministries - Home, Finance, Defence and External Affairs.

Notable, all four former ministers of these portfolios - Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajnath Singh and S Jaishankar - have been retained and made part of Modi 3.0

A day after PM Modi took his oath for a third term on Sunday, the markets have hit an all-time high. As the markets open, news agency PTI has reported that Sensex has breached the 77,000-mark for first time and Nifty has hit a record high level in early trade.

In 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his oath for the first time and formed the government with 46 ministers. 10 years later, Modi stands equal with Nehru as he took his oath for a third time and formed the NDA government with 71 ministers.

On Sunday, 30 Cabinet ministers, 5 Ministers of State with Independent Charge and 36 Ministers of State were inducted for Modi's third term as the leader.

Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJP chief Naveen Patnaik on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for swearing-in as the country's PM for successive third time.

Taking to microblogging site-X, he wrote:"Congratulate Shri @narendramodiji on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the record third consecutive term. Wish you a successful tenure and best wishes to your team in fulfilling the aspirations of the people. May our beloved country reach new heights of development under your leadership," posts BJD president Naveen Patnaik

In his reaction on the new NDA-government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Himachal Pradesh CM and BJP leader and Jairam Thakur on Monday said, "I congratulate PM Narendra Modi for creating this historic record of becoming India's Prime Minister for the third consecutive term..."

He added, "His work, his intention, and his hard work have been accepted by the people... A very balanced cabinet has been formed... All NDA partners have been accommodated... We were confident of winning all 4 seats in Himachal Pradesh... Congress' main focus was on the Mandi seat and the party put in their all to contest there. But our organisation in Mandi was stronger which ensured our victory..."

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy congratulated G Kishan Reddy, K Ram Mohan Naidu and other sworn in Union Ministers from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Taking to social media platform X, Reddy urged them the inducted MPs to work towards implementation of the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 and to get funds and projects from the Centre to both the states.

In the Modi 3.0 cabinet, G Kishan Reddy and Ram Mohan Naidu were sworn in as cabinet ministers, whereas Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Chandrasekhar Pemmasani and Bh Srinivasa Varma joined as Ministers of State.

For Narendra Modi's oath taking ceremony, keeping India's 'Neighbour First' policy in mind, foreign leaders of its neighbours in the Indian Ocean were invited. As he begins his historic third term, PM Modi is expected to meet the following leaders today -

As Day 1 of the new Modi cabinet begins, the suspense over the cabinet portfolios and who gets what is expected to end today. However, the BJP is also yet to announce its pick for the post of Chief Minister of Odisha.

For Odisha, Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan and Ashwini Vaishnaw were considered some of the top candidates for the post. However, with all three being inducted as cabinet ministers, the ruling party must pick a new name.

On his first day back as the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has signed the first file of the 3.0 government. As per an official statement from the PMO, the first file authorised the release of the 17th instalment of PM Kisan Nidhi.

"Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come," stated PM Modi.

Speaking to reports, NCP's Supriya Sule stated that she wishes the Modi 3.0 cabinet can "give this country a stable government. I personally expect a loan waiver and a decision on onions and milk especially because both those farmers are under tremendous pressure".

After taking the oath as the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi met with Maldvies President Mohamed Muizzu. Muizzu had been invited for the swearing in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.

With Modi and outgoing EAM Minister S Jaishankar meeting Muizzu, both countries will now aim to work towards improving the ties.

The Election Commission of India has announced bye-elections for 13 vacancies in assembly constituencies across seven states. As per the polling body, the elections will be held on July 10 and the counting of votes will be done on July 13.

The elections will be held in Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.

Shortly after he was sworn in as a cabinet minister, actor-turned-polticial Chirag Paswan thanked PM Modi for giving him the responsibility of a cabinet berth.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Paswan said: "This is a huge responsibility for me... I will ensure that I fulfil this responsibility with full honesty and hard work... The credit for this goes to the Prime Minister. He had so much faith in a party with a single MP and gave it 5 seats... I have also given them all 5 seats by winning them".

"In the last 10 years, the govt has given priority to schemes related to the welfare of the poor. We will move ahead with that thinking to reduce the difference between the rich and the poor, and villages and towns," he added further.

With the Modi 3.0 cabinet signing in, suspense over the post of Lok Sabha Speaker prevails. In the inital days of the election results, key allies - TDP and JDU had reportedly sought for the position of LS Speaker.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudea congratulated Modi on his win on June 6, 2024, days after the Lok Sabha ELection 2024 results were declared in favour of the BJP and NDA alliance.

In what has been reported as a snub to Ottawa, PM Modi has responded to Trudeau four days after his Canadian counterpart issued the statement.

Action hero Suresh Gopi, who rose to national stardom in cinema style on June 4 by winning the Thrissur seat on a BJP ticket and scripting history for the saffron party in Kerala, has hinted that he is happier being an MP than being inducted into the Union Cabinet.

Indian Express reported that Gopi told some Malayalam TV channels in Delhi that he could be relieved of his duties soon since he didn't want to be part of the central government.

As per the Indian Express report, after the swearing-in as Cabinet minister on Sunday, Suresh Gopi told Malayalam TV channels in Delhi, “I want to work as an MP. My stand was that I didn’t want it (Cabinet berth). I had told (the party) that I was not interested in it (Cabinet berth). I think I will be relieved soon”.

However, the actor-cum-politician later told CNBC-TV18 that he has accepted the position. "I have already accepted the ministerial position and I have been sworn in," he said, adding that he is now awaiting instructions to take charge at his ministry.

Prem Singh Tamang will take oath as Sikkim chief minister for the second consecutive term today. The swearing-in ceremony will commence at around 4 pm.

The portfolios of the Modi 3.0 cabinet are expected to be announced soon. Ahead of the announcement, since the BJP will be working in a colation government this time, many berths will be distributed across allies such as TDP, Apna Dal, JDU and more.

However, the BJP is expected to retain power over the big four portfolios - Home, Defence, Finance and External Affairs ministries. Notably, the former ministers of these four ministries have been retained and inducted in the 3.0 cabinet.

Trinamool Congress MP Sagarika Ghose has said that the BJP should elect a new leader and "replace Prime Minister Narendra Modi" since he was unable to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha elections.

Taking to X, the TMC MP said that Modi "almost lost in Varanasi, lost in Ayodhya, and could not get a majority in spite of a campaign centred entirely on himself. Modi should be replaced. Let BJP elect a fresh leader".

With all NDA allies erecieving at least one position in the council of ministers, Ajit Pawar's faction of the Nationalist Congress Party recieved none.

The NCP’s exclusion comes after MP Praful Patel and NCP Chief Ajit Pawar's insistence on a Cabinet berth. The Maharashtra party had refused to settle for a MoS rank and urged the BJP and NDA government to give a cabinet berth instead.

Ahead of the oath taking ceremon on Sunday, Ajit Pawar stated that he and NCP are "willing to wait" for a cabinet berth.

Bypolls to Uttarakhand's Badrinath and Manglaur assembly seats will be held on July 10 along with 11 others in several states, the Election Commission said on Monday.

The Badrinath seat fell vacant after Congress MLA Rajendra Bhandari resigned from the House in March and joined the BJP. The bypoll to the Manglaur seat was necessitated by the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari last October.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party MP Rahul Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina this afternoon in Delhi.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor responded to BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar's announcement on Sunday about stepping down from public life after 18 years.

Chandrasekhar, who was a Minister of State in the previous Narendra Modi-led government, had initially posted on X about ending his public life but later clarified that he meant his tenure as a Member of Parliament and Minister of State had concluded.

He promptly deleted his initial post--"Today curtains down on my 18-year stint in public service, of which three years I had the privilege to serve with PM @narendramodi ji's TeamModi2.0. I certainly didn't intend to end my 18 years of public service as a candidate who lost an election, but that's how it's turned out."

Tharoor, who successfully retained his Thiruvananthapuram seat by defeating Chandrasekhar, responded to the initial post by expressing confidence in Chandrasekhar's ability to continue contributing to the country.

"As someone who discussed various issues with you during your stint in government, I have no doubt that there is much more you can contribute to our country through public service, @RajeevRC_X. Elective office is only one path (and you are young enough to have another crack at that too!) All the best for the future," Tharoor wrote on X.

With a vote share of 46 per cent, the NDA secured 10 per cent more votes than the INDIA bloc, which received only 36 per cent of the votes cast. Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president Prem Singh Tamang was sworn in as chief minister of Sikkim for the second consecutive term on Monday. Tamang was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at a function held in Paljor Stadium here.

The SKM returned to power in Sikkim by a landslide victory, winning 31 seats in the 32-member assembly. The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), which ruled the state for 25 years in a row till 2019, could manage only one seat.

The first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed NDA government is underway at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India, while several other leaders were sworn-in in the council of ministers in a grand ceremony on Sunday. Portfolios are yet to be allocated.

It has been decided in the Union Cabinet meeting today to provide assistance to 3 crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses, to meet the housing requirements arising out of the increase in the number of eligible families.

Govt of India is implementing Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana since 2015-16 to provide assistance to the eligible rural and urban households for construction of houses with basic amenities.

Under PMAY, total total 4.21 Crore houses have been completed for the eligible poor families under the housing schemes in the last 10 years.

All the houses constructed under PMAY are provided the other basic amenities such as Household Toilets, LPG connection, Electricity connection, Functional Household Tap Connection etc. through convergence with other schemes of Central Government and State Governments.

JMM leader Kalpana Soren sworn in as an MLA from Gandey assembly constituency in Jharkhand.

Newly elected MLA from Gandey assembly constituency Kalpana Soren speaking to reporters, said, "We have less time as assembly elections are approaching...The public of Jharkhand has extended love and support to us...Every worker of the Mahagathbandhan alliance will fulfil his responsibility..."

According to India Today, Union minister Nitin Gadkari has retained the Road Transport & Highways Ministry.

Two Ministers of state for the same ministry are Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra.

Malhotra speaking to India Today said that he is yet to receive official phone call about the portfolio.

As per latest reports, Union Minister s Jaishankar will remain in the leadership of External Affairs Ministry.

According to India Today, PM Modi during the cabinet meeting on Monday addressing the new cabinet reportedly said, "Most Of You Continue Your Work" which indicated that most of the cabinet ministers will continue working in their previous ministries.

Former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar who has been introduced in the Modi 3.0 cabinet, will be taking up two ministries - Power And Urban Affairs.

Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been given agriculture and rural development ministry in the new NDA government.

Union Minister Amit Shah will retain the Home Ministry, as per latest report.

Former BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda got the Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers ministries. Nadda held the Health Ministry in the first term of the Modi government.

Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat got tourism and culture ministry. Singh was the Jal Shakti minister in the previous government.

Union minister Annapurna Devi, OBC leader from Jharkhand will take over the Women and Child Development ministry from Smriti Zubin Irani.

Of the 71 ministers sworn in Modi Government 3.0, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has retained at least 31 ministers from the last cabinet.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday stated that he thinks the new cabinet should try to resolve the ongoing Manipur conflict on the day cabinet minister get their respective ministries allocated.

Bhagwat was addressing an event in Nagpur in Maharashtra when he said, "It's been a year since Manipur has been waiting for peace. The state remained peaceful for the last 10 years, but suddenly gun culture increased in the state again. It is important to resolve the conflict on priority."

Chirag Paswan spoke to media after the announcement of the allocation of Food Processing Ministry and said, "I have been given the responsibility of a ministry about which I have always talked about in my vision document. In my 'Bihar First, Bihari First' vision, I have always said that our farmers will not get the right price of their products unless we setup processing units in the nation. Our nation is an agriculture-based country and that's why it is important for us to do the right processing, packaging and manufacturing of the products of farmers."

Rajnath Singh in post on X wrote a long message of gratitude after the names of cabinet minister portfolios were announced.

He wrote, "I express my heartfelt gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi for his continued trust and confidence in me. I shall continue to serve our motherland as India’s Defence Minister. Safeguarding India’s border will remain our topmost priority and we shall continue protecting India’s integrity & sovereignty. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi we shall rededicate ourselves to strengthen ‘Make in India’ and take defence manufacturing & exports to greater heights."
