The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday said it has made the biggest ever drug seizure in which drugs worth thousands of crores have been seized.?

“Large amounts of party drug LSD were recovered after the agency busted a nationwide drug syndicate and arrested several smugglers,” mentioned the NDTV in its report.

It said NCB will hold a presser today at 12pm to reveal more details about the drug seizure.

Earlier, it said last month, in a special operation with the Indian Navy, the agency recovered 2,525 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 25,000 crores in a boat along the coast of Kerala.

The report quoting a senior NCB official called it the "largest drug seizure in value" for the agency.

"NCB & Navy conducted a successful operation in the Indian Ocean. It is the largest in terms of its monetary value. It originated from the Chabahar port in Iran. The source of the drugs is Pakistan," it quoted an official as having said.

The special operation, named Operation Samudragupta, was launched in February 2022 and more than 4,000 kg of drugs have been seized so far.

NCB while giving details about the racket said an associate of this drug syndicate would reach out to you through Instagram asking if you wanted drugs, mentioned the report.

“If you expressed interest, the conversation would shift to the private messaging app 'Wicker Me'. The payment would then be made through cryptocurrency and the drug, mostly LSD, would be imported from Netherlands or Poland,” it said.

LSD or lysergic acid diethylamide is a synthetic chemical based-drug and is categorised as a hallucinogen.

It added six people, some of them students, have been arrested from various cities in India.

The mastermind of the cartel was arrested from Jaipur, it mentioned.

“During the investigation, the agency learnt that the cartel used to advertise on the dark net and also reach out to Instagram users who they thought could be potential buyers,” it said.

It added: “Darknet refers to the deep hidden internet platform that is used for ?sale of drugs, exchange of pornographic content, and other illegal activities by using the secret alleys of the onion router (ToR) to stay away from the surveillance of law enforcement agencies.”

It added: “The six arrested are all tech-savvy and used to use private messaging apps and hidden websites to evade the authorities.”
