In a significant development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Derek O'Brien faced suspension for the remainder of the winter session in the Rajya Sabha. The suspension, attributed to "ignoble misconduct," was announced by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

The motion for suspension was adopted after Chairman Dhankhar asserted that O'Brien had disrupted the proceedings by entering the Well of the House. The TMC MP was accused of continuously shouting slogans and gesturing at the Chair, leading to a breach of decorum.

O'Brien's disruptive behavior unfolded as he, along with other Opposition members, demanded the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament. The demand was tied to a recent security breach, where two individuals jumped into the Chamber of the House from the visitors' gallery, triggering chaos and concern.
