Doctors of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow said that the sudden increase in blood pressure in the cold and blood clotting was causing heart attack and brain stroke.
Seventeen of these died even before they could be given any medical aid.

The control room of the Cardiology Institute informed that?723 heart patients came to the emergency and OPD on Thursday. Of these, 41 patients who were in critical condition, were admitted.?
Seven heart patients undergoing treatment at the hospital in critical condition died due to cold.
Apart from this, 15 patients were brought to emergency in a brought dead condition.
According to a faculty member in the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, heart attacks in this cold weather are not restricted only to the elderly.
He also added that they?has?cases when even teenagers had?suffered heart attacks.
Everyone, irrespective of age, should keep warm and stay indoors as much as possible, he said
Normal life was hit in large parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday due to the continued severe cold conditions, with little respite expected for the next few days.
The day temperature also remained low with sunshine being elusive.?
Also, following snowfall in some areas of Uttarakhand, the icy winds from there have increased the chill in the plains, said Mohammad Danish, acting director of the Meteorological Center in Lucknow.
Although there is a possibility of some change from Thursday, no major relief is expected from the severe cold for the next three-four days, he said.
During the last 24 hours, a thick layer of fog was seen at many places in the western parts of the state and at some places in the eastern parts, while most of the western parts and some eastern parts witnessed of cold wave, a Meteorological Center report said. ?
A significant drop in day temperature was recorded from Tuesday in Ayodhya, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly and Moradabad divisions of the state.
