Heavy rains lashed Delhi on Monday, leading to a drop in the maximum temperature and traffic snarls across the city. The India Meteorological Department forecast an overcast sky and light rain for the national capital on Tuesday.

Rain fury in Rajasthan led to the deaths of eight people on Monday, taking the death toll in the last two days to 22.

Weather officials said that the spell of heavy rainfall is likely to continue in eastern part of the state for the next four to five days.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Monday conducted field visit in various parts of the city after heavy rains. He visited Jawahar Circle, Malviya Nagar, Sanganer, and Dher ke Balaji areas and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile schools remained shut in Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Dausa and Karauli amid heavy rainfall forecast.

Heavy rains lashed the state of Himachal Pradesh on Monday, triggering landslides and flash floods over the past week.

As many as 197 roads, including two national highways, were closed in the state, officials said.

Several areas in Una district were waterlogged while flash floods and landslides were reported in Chamba, Mandi, Kinnaur, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan districts, they said.

According to the officials, 110 people were killed in rain-related incidents and the state suffered losses of about Rs 1,004 crore between June 27 and August 12.

The regional meteorological department issued a "yellow" alert for heavy rain in isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh till Saturday and also warned of low to moderate risk of flash floods in parts of Chamba, Kinnaur, Sirmaur and Shimla till Tuesday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha during the next five days.

As per the evening bulletin of IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm and lightning are expected in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh on Tuesday.

The weather office has issued a yellow warning (be updated) for these districts.

In view of the inclement weather, Amarnath Yatra has been suspended on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Waterloggic and traffic jams were reported in various parts of Bengaluru on Monday after early morning rains.

Peak hour traffic snarls led posed severe inconvenience to office-goers and school-going children.

Areas such as Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Nagawara Junction and Hebbal, and Veerasandra on the Electronics City road, parts of Hosur Road and Bannerghatta Road, were severely affected, official sources said.

Heavy waterlogging was witnessed on ORR at Marathalli, Karthik Nagar and Kalyan Nagar, Puttenahalli, Varthur Kodi, Panathur Main Road, among others, they said, adding, efforts have been made to restore free movement of traffic.

The national capital is likely to record a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the minimum temperature likely to settle at 26 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rain for Delhi.

The financial capital of the nation has been predicted to have a cloudy sky with moderate rainfall on Tuesday as per the India Meteorological Department.

Mumbai's maximum temperature is likely to settle at 31 degrees Celsius and minimum at 27 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department has said that isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan during August 12 and 18, while East Rajasthan and Haryana during August 12 and 16.

Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during August 14 and 16, Punjab on August 14.

"Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan on 13th August," the weather bulletin read.

Parts of Telangana's Hyderabad received rains this morning.

hree women, including a tourist from Uttar Pradesh, were swept away by the strong currents of Ganga and Bhagirathi rivers in separate incidents in Uttarakhand on Monday, police said.

In the first incident, Chameli Devi, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, was swept away at Janaki Pul Ghat of the Ganga in Tehri district's Muni Ki Reti area, Additional Superintendent of Police JR Joshi said.

In the second incident, two women were swept away in the Bhagirathi river, a tributary of the Ganga, when they had gone to fetch water near the Nakuri Shiva temple in Dunda tehsil of Uttarkashi district, police said.

Delhi's minimum temperature settled two notches below normal at 25 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, while the maximum is expected to settle at 33 degrees C, the IMD said. The humidity level at 8:30 am was at 97 per cent, it said.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with light rain in Delhi for Tuesday. The city is in the Met office's 'green' zone and there is no advisory for the day.

Delhi Traffic Police said on X that traffic movement is affected on Gazipur Dairy Farm Road due to damage of sewer line. adding that repair work is going on. Commuters coming from Anand Vihar and going towards Noida have been advised to ask Khichripur Road. Commuters coming from Noida and Vasundhara have been advised to take Khichripur/Chand Cinema Road.

From June 1 to August 12, Rajasthan recorded 40 per cent more rainfall than the normal. The normal rainfall recorded during the corresponding period in the state is 283.9 mm, which has been 397.8 mm this year.

In 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Monday, Jaipur recorded 118 mm of rainfall, Ramgarh Pachwara in Dausa received 258 mm of rain and Sapotra in Karauli received 207 mm of rain.

Lalsot and Rauwas in Dausa district received 132 to 178 mm of rain, while many places in Khandar and Bonali of Sawai Madhopur received 117 to 168 mm of rain.

Meanwhile, from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Monday, 76.6 mm of rainfall was recorded in Jaipur, 38 mm in Sikar, 25 mm in Alwar, 22.5 mm in Anta, 13.8 mm in Ajmer, 11.5 mm in Dholpur, 9.3 mm in Bharatpur.

The Jaipur Meteorological Centre's spokesperson said some parts of Bikaner division of western Rajasthan are likely to receive moderate and sometimes heavy rainfall for the next four to five days. Light to moderate rainfall is likely at sporadic places in Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied with light thunderstorm and lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places of Delhi, NCR and UP's Amroha, Moradabad, Billari, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a post on X at 12 pm.
