Sathyabama’s Madugai: Making Women Stronger And Confident

Madugai, the brainchild of Dr Mariazeena Johnson, Chancellor of Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, provides for free health and hygiene kits for women and girl students of government schools in suburbs of Chennai.

‘Madugai’ meaning Strength is a noble project of the Sathyabama University, solely aimed at empowering women. Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University), Chennai, is one of India's premier Academic and Research universities that offers multi-disciplinary academic programmes in various fields of Engineering, Science, Technology, Architecture, Law, Pharmacy, Dental, Nursing, Management, Arts, Science , Physiotherapy, Allied health sciences and Hotel Management.?The institution was established in 1987 by founder Chancellor Dr. Jeppiaar.It was established under Sec.3 of UGC Act, 1956, and recognized as Category I university by UGCand is Accredited with ‘A++’ Grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment council and also received ABET Accreditation.. Sathyabama’s standing in rankings and ratings are unique at National and International level. There are 15 research centres exploring scientific talent. The institution is known for women empowerment, wherein 85% of women are in hierarchical positions and 70% of faculties are women. Innovation ecosystem is prevalent in the institution with growing number of student startups. There are 150+ International collaborations opening up several opportunities to students and faculty. The Institution has been ranked one among the premier Universities for the last eight consecutive years in NIRF ranking by Ministry of Education.

In the chancellor’s words the “project aims at nourishing preadolescent girl children and women, this initiative would help high school going girls and women to maintain health and hygiene.” We are happy to associate with Ms.Nayanthara for this noble cause. She being the brand ambassador of the institution is an honor to us.?

Ms. Nayanthara expressed her joy and pride during her address, stating, "I am happy and proud to be associated with such a prestigious university as Sathyabama. I am glad that the institution is undertaking a socially conscious project like Madugai. I take pride in how Sathyabama reaches out to the needy and socially weaker sections of society through Madugai. I eagerly anticipate what the institution will do next for society." Recently, she also congratulated the university on achieving Category 1 status and extended her wishes for more accolades in the near future.

These health and hygiene kits are delivered to 21 adopted schools of the institution, wherein 1000 beneficiaries are served in first phase. This project is serving as a very big support to the girls of pre-adolescents stage and women.
