Varun Tomar earlier combined with?Arjun Singh Cheema and Ujjawal Malik to clinch the 10m air pistol men's team gold for India at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Jakarta. Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan and Surbhi Rao will compete in the women's category later
The 20-year old Varun shot 239.6 in the men's individual final, leading an Indian 1-2 as compatriot and teammate Arjun stood second. In the process, he bagged the country's fourth Paris Olympics 2024 quota in pistol. All quota places in rifle have already been secured.
Earlier, the Indian pistol shooters made a bright start to their campaign at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers, shooting down gold in the men’s team event. Varun (586), Arjun (579) and Ujjawal (575) produced a total of 1740 to finish at the top, while Iran and Korea claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
A total of 16 quota places for the Paris Olympics are available at the continental showpiece. The 10m air pistol events for men and women have four quotas on offer with a maximum of three for the Indian shooters.
Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan and Surbhi Rao will be in action later in the women's 10m air pistol event.
