Former champions China beat Mongolia by five wickets in a low-scoring Women's East Asia Cup 2024 match at Yeonhui Cricket Ground, Incheon on Tuesday, October 8. (More Cricket News)

Opting to bowl first, China women dismissed their Mongol counterparts for 51 runs in 17.4 overs with left-arm spinner Mengting Liu claiming three wickets for just seven runs.

The 23-year-old was ably supported by her skipper Xu Qian (2/5) and Wang Huiying (2/9).

For Mongolia, Batjargal Ichinkhorloo (10 off 23) and Uugansuvd Bayarjavkhlan (12 off 20) were the only batters to score runs in double figures even though the top contributors in the innings were extras, so to say, with China gifting 18 such runs (one no ball, 16 wides and one leg bye).

The Chinese chase was also not devoid of concerns. Only two batters, Jing Yang (17 off 17) and Mengting Liu (11 off 11), breached the 10-run mark and interestingly enough, Mongol bowlers conceded exactly 18 extras (one no ball and 17 wides).

Skipper Odzaya Erdenebaatar produced an exemplary seam bowling exploits to claim three early wickets (3/17).

And with another pacer Tsendsuren Ariuntsetseg also getting into the act, claiming two wickets, Mongolia did threaten to pull off a heist.

But as it turned out, 52 runs was too small a target to defend.
