India lost the second ODI match by 32 runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Jeffrey Vandersay was chosen as the Player of the Match for his six-wicket haul in the match. Batting first, the hosts managed to set a 241-run target for India. The visitors got a good start powered by captain Rohit Sharma but then the Lankan's beast Vandersay bamboozled the Indian top-order and took six wickets. Charith Asalanka cleaned the lower order and restricted India to 208 runs after 42.2 overs.

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and decided to bat first against India in Colombo on Wednesday (August 7), for the third and final ODI of their three-match series.

Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando opened the batting for Sri Lanka after they opted to bat first. India's Mohammed Siraj started with the first over. Nissanka welcomed him with a couple of boundaries in the first over.

Riyan Parag was called back into the attack and Charith Asalanka welcomed him with a massive six. He got rid of him on the last delivery of the over. It was three reds in the review and Sri Lanka lost their third wicket.

Kusal Mendis completed his half-century in the 48th over. He took 72 balls to achieve this feat. He hit back-to-back boundaries to complete his fifty.

The Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill started the chase with Sharma hitting the first delivery for a boundary. Asitha Fernando opened the bowling attack of Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill got bowled out by Asitha Fernando in the fifth over of the Indian innings. Before that over, Rohit Sharma smashed three fours and one massive six to collect 18 runs from Maheesh Theekshana's over.

After Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma also threw his wicket. He had given a good start and could have taken his time, but Dunith Wellalage dismissed him on the first delivery of his second over. Rishabh Pant joined Virat Kohli at the crease. Earlier, Sharma equalled Chris Gayle in most ODI sixes (331).

I want to thank my skipper, teammates and coaching staff. Everyone gave me great support and that's why I am here. We adjusted to the wicket as it was turning. It was same as like the first two ODIs and committed less mistakes today. The batters did a good job and then the spinners bowled well. Everyone is supporting each other and I am excited to be part of the team.

I don't think it is a concern (spin problems). But it is something we have to look at individually and as a gameplan. It is a joke, when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of that. But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us. We looked at the conditions and went with the combinations, there are also guys who need to be looked at and hence the changes. There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time. These things happen, series loss is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss.

I am a happy captain right now. The team did all things right throughout the series. We all knew they are a strong batting line up and we wanted to back our strength, spin was our strength and we backed it. They are in a good mood right now and our coach (Sanath Jayasuriya) is very active. The boys really enjoyed the team environment.
