Cesar Luis Menotti, the charismatic coach who led Argentina to its first World Cup title in 1978, has died, the Argentine Football Association said Sunday. He was 85.

"Goodbye, dear Flaco!" the association's statement added, using Menotti's nickname which means "the thin one." (AP)

India's first-ever 'hybrid pitch' was unveiled at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium in a grand ceremony on Monday. The event was attended by IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal and cricket dignitaries including Paul Taylor, a former England cricketer and SIS's international cricket director.

"The introduction of hybrid pitches is set to revolutionize cricket in India, following their success in iconic venues like Lord's and The Oval in England," said Dhumal, who hails from Himachal Pradesh. (PTI)

The referee for Monday's Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United will wear a camera on his head for a program that will be broadcast later this year offering an insight into the demands of being a match official. The league said the head-mounted device — or “RefCam” as it is being called — worn by Jarred Gillett at Selhurst Park will be integrated into the referee's usual communications system. (AP)

Pakistan limited overs skipper Babar Azam is optimistic that Gary Kirsten's appointment as head coach of Pakistan's white ball side will certainly improve its performance.

"He (Kirsten) is a very experienced coach, and his presence should be beneficial for us all. He is already taking a lot of interest in the planning for the World Cup and discussing strategy with the team management," Babar told a media conference in Lahore on Monday.

West Ham United have confirmed that incumbent manager David Moyes will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires. The development comes after reports that former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui agreed a deal to take over from the Scot.

Match 56 of Indian Premier League 2024 pits sixth-placed Delhi Capitals against the high-flying Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi tomorrow (May 7).
