The 2023 Formula 1 Calendar is now in its home stretch, with just three more races to go after the Mexico City Grand Prix. The championship is done and dusted, and after his triumph at last week's United States Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen has now won a record-tying 15 races this season - including 10 races in a row. But there is still lots to play for, especially for his teammate Sergio Perez. (Preview | Sports News)

While Verstappen has hogged the limelight, Perez is eager to prove a point or two, and will get no better opportunity than in front of his home crowd in Mexico. The 33-year-old is in second place in the driver's standings. While there is daylight between him and Verstappen, Perez is 39 points clear of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and would look to strengthen his lead in the runners-up position with a superlative performance on home soil. ?

He is expected to get raucous support from his fans, perhaps to the detriment of his teammate Verstappen, who was booed after winning the US Grand Prix. “I don't think Max is going to get the warmest reception in Mexico,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said earlier this week. “But that's water off a duck's back. One year you are the villain, then next year you are a hero,” Horner added.

On his part, Perez asked the fans to respect the entire team, including Verstappen. “I want Mexico to come out to support the whole Red Bull Racing Team, not just me,” he said.
