United States’ Simone Biles did not get the perfect send off she would have hoped or expected for. However, she clinched a silver medal in the floor exercise finals, making it her 11th Olympic medal after a routine that saw her include a couple of major step out of bounds that proved costly. 

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games has not been kind, particularly unforgiving for India. So far, it has been talent meeting opportunity, unfortunately for it to not cross the finish line. Here's a look at India's fourth-placed finishes and the medal that were cost.

French Polynesian Kauli Vaast won the gold medal in men's surfing while Caroline Marks from the United States won the women's surfing gold medal at the Paris Olympics in Tahiti.

Cheers and tears erupted from boats floating near the wave and crowds of spectators along the shore as the men's final match ended in the afternoon. Vaast pumped his arms into the air in victory after beating Jack Robinson from Australia, who received the silver medal.

“I don't really realize it, but I just made history,” said Vaast. “I can't be prouder to represent Tahiti and France at home.” (AP)

The fans have started to fill into the Bercy Arena for a big basketball day in the men’s competition. Germany play Greece, while Serbia take on Australia in the quarters. France will meet Canada, while Olympic champions USA face Brazil. 

Kishore Kumar Jena starts off strong with a 80.73m throw in his first attempt with two more left to better it. In the initial attempts, Jena is now second on the table.

That's job, done and dusted. 87.76 in qualification, in his very first attempt. That is one way of doing things. In the shape of his life and the result is showing.

Kishore Jena, clearly not happy with his second attempt, step over the line - and will eventually count as an invalid throw.

India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra will start things off in Group B men's javelin throw qualification round that is scheduled to start at 3:20PM IST.

Make that three! Three athletes have now qualified for the finals of the men's javelin throw, and Kenya's Yego is the latest entrant.

In his last attempt, Jena registers 80.21 and will not have to wait for some results to go his way to seal his finals berth.

Fan Zhendong of China wins the match against India's Sharath Kamal 3-1 to give China a 2-0 lead in the Men's Team (Pre-quarterfinal).

Despite having lost the battle, Sharath managed to trouble opponent many times. However, the Chinese turned the tables just when was needed.

Manav Thakkar will be up against the World No. 1 Wang Chuqin, next.

An inspired performance from Vinesh Phogat sees her upset the current world champ, Yui Susaki. HUGE RESULT!

4-time World Champion Yui Susaki has been beaten by India's Vinesh Phogat 3-2. However, Vinesh still has to win a couple more bouts for a chance to earn medal.

Trailing 0-2 after conceding penalty points for passivity, the Indian wrestler came back brilliantly in the last five seconds to take down the top seed by clinching three points to win 3-2.

With a throw of 89.34m, Neeraj Chopra has earned his spot in the final of the Men's Javelin throw event.

Veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal showed resistance but India suffered a 0-3 loss to mighty China in the pre-quarterfinals, which also ended their campaign in the men’s table tennis team event at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, the Indian women's team comprising Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamat, prevailed over higher-ranked Romania 3-2 in a thrilling tie to enter the quarterfinals. (PTI)

The American coach of Olympic champions Andre De Grasse and Marcell Jacobs has been kicked out of the Paris Games.

Rana Reider was investigated for alleged sexual misconduct by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and placed on a one-year probation that ended in May.

He was accredited for the Summer Games through the Canadian Olympic Committee for his personal work with De Grasse, the defending 200-meter champion. He's also the personal coach of Jacobs, the Italian who won the 100 meters in Tokyo three years ago, and several other sprinters. (AP)

Vinesh Phogat is in quarter-final action against Oksana Livach from Ukraine.

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat entered the semifinals of the 50kg category by defeating Oksana Livach of Ukraine 7-5 in the quarterfinals.

Vinesh Phogat will face Cuban wrestler Yusneylys Guzman in the semifinals of the 50kg women's wrestling category. The semifinal match will be played later tonight at 10:13 pm IST.

The test run meant to allow Olympic athletes to familiarize themselves with the marathon swimming course in the Seine River was cancelled on Tuesday due to concerns about water quality in the Paris waterway. Paris 2024 spokesperson Anne Descamps confirmed that World Aquatics decided to cancel the exercise.

The Netherlands are up against Spain in the first semi-final of the men's hockey at the Paris Olympics 2024. India face Germany later tonight. The winners of both matches will clash for the gold medal in the final.

Germany defeated Greece in men's basketball to reach their first Olympics semifinals on Tuesday. Germany came from behind to win the match 76-63 against Greece.

After the end of the second quarter, the Netherlands have doubled their lead of the first quarter and are on the brink of booking a place in the men's hockey final at the Paris Olympics 2024.

At the Paris Games, a Greek athlete tested positive in a doping test and has been asked to leave the athletes' village, according to a statement from Greece's Olympic committee. The Hellenic Olympic Committee was informed of the positive result by Greece's anti-doping agency. As a result, the athlete has been temporarily banned. The HOC did not disclose the identity of the athlete or the sport in which they were competing.

Quan Hongchan won her second consecutive gold medal in the women's 10m platform diving event. She scored a total of 425.60 points and led from start to finish, ranking first for four out of the five dives. Her Chinese teammate, Chen Yuxi, secured the silver medal with 420.70 points. Kim Mi Rae of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea won the bronze with a score of 372.10 points, marking their first Olympic medal in an individual diving event.

The Netherlands are set to clash with Argentina in the first semi-final match on Wednesday whereas Belgium will face surprise entry China in the second match. The bronze medal and gold medal match will be played on the same day.

India's Aditi Ashok and Dishka Dagar are preparing for a better show in the Paris Olympics as the Golf events start on Wednesday. Ashok missed out on a bronze medal in Tokyo and Dagar is trying to come out of the trauma of a car accident.

In the end, one of the best basketball players on earth made the difference. In a sequence of about two minutes, Nikola Jokic scored a tough hook shot, made a key steal on Mills as he looked set to score, and hit a ridiculous fadeaway shot to effectively seal the game for the world silver medallists. Australia had a chance to tie the game again with a few seconds remaining, but a bad inbound pass from Josh Giddey was stolen, and Serbia escaped with a 95-90 win. Serbia fans sang praises for their heroes as one, with more MVP chants for Jokic, which was well-deserved.

Brazillian legend women's football player Marta lost her appeal for postponing a two-match ban on her and will not play in the semi-match against Spain.

Arisa Trew of Australia wins gold. Japan's Kokona Hiraki is the silver medalist while Great Britain's Sky Brown bags bronze.

India will be up against reigning World Champions Germany in the semifinal of the men's hockey event.

“The effort she has put in shows after what she has been through I pray for her that she wins a medal. All best to her," the defending Olympic and world champion added.

Vinesh Phogat has become the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for an Olympic final. She defeated Yusneylys Guzman of Cuba 5-0 in the semifinal.

In the final, the 29-year-old Vignesh will face American Sarah Hildebrandt, who defeated Dolgorjavyn Otgonjargal of Mongolia in the other semifinal.

India, despite scoring the first goal, are trailing 1-2 against Germany in the semi-final at half-time.

Reigning world champion from Canada, Camryn Rogers won the gold while the early leader Annette Echikunwoke of USA finished second.

Fifth successive Olympics gold for Cuba's legendary wrestler Mijain Lopez in the men's 130kg Graeco Roman wrestling!

Three years since his gold in Tokyo, Lopez had not fought a single bout before he decided to defend his medal. And he has done it. Lopez has now Olympic gold medals in Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. An undisputed great.

Winfred Yavi of Bahrain has broken the Olympic record and won the gold medal in the women's steeplechase. Yavi wins in 8:52.76, taking over six seconds off the old Olympic record standing from 2008, with Uganda's Peruth Chemutai taking silver in a national record 8:53.34 and Kenya's Faith Cherotich bronze in a personal best 8:55.15.

Greece's long jump world champion and reigning Olympic champ Miltiadis Tentoglou defends his Tokyo gold. Jamaica's Wayne Pinnock gets silver and Italy's Mattia Furlani bags bronze.

America's Gabby Thomas wins gold in 21.83. Julien Alfred from St Lucia has clinched the silver in 22.08 and USA's Brittany Brown takes a four-way photo-finish for bronze in 22.20!

USA's Amit Elor wins women's freestyle 68kg gold. Kyrgyzstan's Meerim Zhumanazarova took the silver while Bronzes went to Türkiye's Buse Cavusoglu and Ozaki Nonoka of Japan.

Algeria's Imane Khelif defeats Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng by unanimous decision to get into the final of the women's 66kg boxing event.

Ireland's Kellie Harrington won the final of the women's 60kg boxing event to grab the gold while China Yang Wenly had to settle for silver.
